Uses and Benefits of AKT FD TABLET (ISONIAZID 100 MG + RIFAMPICIN 150 MG + ETHAMBUTOL 267 MG + PYRAZINAMIDE 500 MG)

This combination medicine is used to treat active tuberculosis (TB) infection, most commonly TB of the lungs (pulmonary TB), though it may also be used for other forms of TB as advised by your doctor.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of newly diagnosed active tuberculosis
• Used during the initial intensive phase of the standard TB treatment course
• Given as part of a doctor-supervised TB treatment program (such as DOTS)

HOW IT WORKS

• Isoniazid and Pyrazinamide kill actively multiplying TB bacteria
• Rifampicin kills bacteria in different stages of growth, including dormant ones
• Ethambutol stops bacteria from multiplying and prevents resistance
• Together they act on the bacteria from multiple angles, making treatment more effective

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for common cold, cough, or ordinary bacterial infections
• Not a treatment for viral infections
• Not to be used for TB prevention alone or as a standalone maintenance drug in the continuation phase without doctor guidance
• Not suitable for self-medication without proper TB diagnosis

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Loss of appetite
• Nausea or mild stomach upset
• Orange-red discolouration of urine, saliva, sweat or tears (harmless)

• Skin rash or itching

• Dizziness
• Numbness or tingling in hands and feet

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Severe vomiting or loss of appetite
• Blurred vision, colour blindness, or reduced vision (may indicate eye toxicity)
• Unexplained bruising or bleeding
• Severe skin reactions such as blistering or peeling
• Fever with rash, breathlessness, or swelling of face/lips (allergic reaction)
• Signs of severe tiredness, dark-coloured stools, or persistent abdominal pain

How to Use AKT FD TABLET (ISONIAZID 100 MG + RIFAMPICIN 150 MG + ETHAMBUTOL 267 MG + PYRAZINAMIDE 500 MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Best taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless instructed
• Do not stop the medicine even if you feel better — complete the full course as advised
• Take at the same time each day to maintain regularity

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Missing doses can lead to drug resistance, so try to be consistent

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original pack until it is time to take it
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to Isoniazid, Rifampicin, Ethambutol, Pyrazinamide, or any other ingredient
• Have severe active liver disease
• Have acute gout
• Have known optic nerve or eye problems (for Ethambutol component), unless advised by a specialist

• Have diabetes, especially with eye complications
