Uses and Benefits of AKURIT-4 TABLET (Rifampicin 150mg + Isoniazid 75mg + Pyrazinamide 400mg + Ethambutol 275mg)

This medicine is used to treat active tuberculosis (TB) infection, usually in the initial intensive phase of treatment.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of pulmonary (lung) tuberculosis
• Treatment of certain forms of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis, as advised by the doctor
• Given as part of a directly observed treatment (DOTS) regimen in many cases

HOW IT WORKS

• Rifampicin and Isoniazid kill TB bacteria by blocking their ability to make essential proteins and cell wall components
• Pyrazinamide works especially well against bacteria hiding inside cells and in acidic environments
• Ethambutol stops bacteria from building their cell wall, preventing them from multiplying
• Together, the four medicines act on the bacteria from different angles, lowering the risk of resistance developing

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for common cold, cough or viral fever
• Not used for bacterial infections other than tuberculosis
• Not a preventive medicine for people without active TB unless specifically advised
• Not to be used for self-diagnosed TB without proper testing and doctor's confirmation

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Loss of appetite
• Nausea and mild stomach upset
• Orange-red discolouration of urine, sweat or tears (harmless)
• Mild joint pain

• Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
• Headache or dizziness
• Mild vision changes

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Severe vomiting or loss of appetite
• Blurred vision, colour blindness, or reduced vision (may indicate eye toxicity)
• Severe skin rash, blistering, or peeling of skin
• Unexplained bruising or bleeding
• Persistent numbness or weakness in limbs
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips or difficulty breathing

How to Use AKURIT-4 TABLET (Rifampicin 150mg + Isoniazid 75mg + Pyrazinamide 400mg + Ethambutol 275mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Best taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Swallow the tablet with a full glass of water; do not crush or chew unless instructed
• Do not stop the medicine even if you feel better - complete the full course as advised
• Stopping early can lead to drug-resistant TB, which is harder to treat
• Attend all follow-up visits and tests as scheduled by your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Try to take doses at the same time each day to avoid missing them

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original packaging until ready to use
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide, Ethambutol or any other ingredient
• Have severe active liver disease
• Have acute gout or very high uric acid levels (due to Pyrazinamide)
• Have existing optic nerve or significant eye problems, without doctor's clearance (due to Ethambutol)

• Have any liver or kidney disease
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have diabetes, as it may affect eyesight monitoring needs
• Drink alcohol regularly
