Clozapine 50mg is prescribed for people with schizophrenia whose symptoms have not improved with other antipsychotic medicines.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment-resistant schizophrenia
- Reducing risk of recurrent suicidal behaviour in schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, as decided by your doctor
- Managing psychosis in Parkinson's disease in some cases, only under specialist advice
HOW IT WORKS
- It acts on dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain
- This helps correct the chemical imbalance linked to hallucinations, delusions, and disturbed thinking
- It can improve mood, behaviour, and daily functioning over time
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for mild anxiety or simple sleep problems
- It is not a first-choice medicine for newly diagnosed schizophrenia
- It is not used for conditions unrelated to psychosis without specialist advice
- It should not be self-prescribed or used without close medical supervision

- Uncontrolled seizures or fits
- High fever with muscle stiffness, confusion, and sweating
- Severe breathing difficulty while sleeping

How to Use Alkepin O 50dt Tablets (Clozapine 50mg)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or without food
- Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says so
- Doses are usually started low and increased slowly by your doctor
- Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms or relapse
- Regular blood tests are required to monitor white blood cell counts while on this medicine
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- If you miss doses for more than two days, contact your doctor before restarting, as the dose may need to be adjusted

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Have a history of low white blood cell count or bone marrow problems
- Have uncontrolled epilepsy
- Have severe heart, liver, or kidney disease
- Are in a comatose state or have severe central nervous system depression
- Are allergic to clozapine or any ingredient in the tablet
