Almotriptan is used for the treatment of acute migraine headaches in adults.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Relief of migraine attacks with or without aura
- Reducing migraine-related symptoms such as headache pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound
HOW IT WORKS
- Acts on serotonin (5-HT1) receptors in the brain
- Causes narrowing of dilated blood vessels around the brain that trigger migraine pain
- Blocks release of pain-causing chemicals involved in migraine
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for prevention of migraine attacks
- Not used for tension-type or cluster headaches
- Not used for general body pain or fever
- Not meant for daily long-term use

- Severe stomach pain or bloody diarrhoea

How to Use ALMOGRIL 12.5MG TABLET (ALMOTRIPTAN 12.5 MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually as soon as migraine symptoms begin
- Swallow the tablet with water; it can be taken with or without food
- Do not take more than the prescribed dose or frequency in a day
- If the migraine returns after initial relief, a second dose may be taken only after the gap advised by your doctor
- Do not use this medicine to prevent an expected migraine
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- This medicine is taken only when needed for an attack, not on a fixed schedule
- If your migraine is ongoing and you missed taking it at onset, take it as soon as you remember, following your doctor's advice
- Do not double the dose

- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Have had a heart attack, angina, stroke, or mini-stroke (TIA)
- Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Have severe liver or kidney disease
- Are allergic to almotriptan or other triptans
- Have taken an ergotamine-containing medicine or another triptan within the last 24 hours
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have risk factors for heart disease such as diabetes, smoking, obesity, or high cholesterol
- Have a family history of heart disease
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have a history of seizures
- Are taking antidepressants (SSRIs or SNRIs)
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Ergotamine or ergot-type medicines
- Other triptans used for migraine
- MAO inhibitors
- SSRI or SNRI antidepressants (risk of serotonin syndrome)
- Certain antifungal or antibiotic medicines that affect drug clearance
