Uses and Benefits of ALOJA-M TABLET (ALOGLIPTIN 12.5MG + METFORMIN 500MG)

This medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise and a single diabetes medicine are not enough to control blood sugar levels.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used along with diet and exercise for better sugar control
• Sometimes used in combination with other diabetes medicines as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Alogliptin increases levels of natural hormones (incretins) that help the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar is high
• Metformin decreases the amount of sugar made by the liver and helps the body use insulin more effectively
• Together they help lower blood sugar through two different mechanisms

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for type 1 diabetes
• Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis, a medical emergency

• Signs of lactic acidosis such as unusual tiredness, muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, feeling cold, or dizziness
• Signs of pancreatitis such as severe stomach pain spreading to the back, with or without vomiting
• Signs of liver problems such as yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine
• Severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing
• Symptoms of very low blood sugar such as sweating, shakiness, confusion, if combined with other diabetes medicines

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day with meals
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it
• Taking it with food helps reduce stomach upset
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as diabetes needs long term control
• Do not stop the medicine without talking to your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep in a dry place, away from moisture
• Keep out of reach and sight of children

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to alogliptin, metformin, or any ingredient in the tablet
• Have severe kidney disease
• Have diabetic ketoacidosis or a history of it
• Have severe liver disease
• Have had a recent heart attack, severe infection, or dehydration
