Amiloride 5mg is used to treat fluid build-up in the body and to help manage high blood pressure, usually along with other diuretics.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating fluid retention (edema) caused by heart failure, liver disease, or kidney problems
• Helping to control high blood pressure when used with other medicines
• Preventing excessive loss of potassium caused by other diuretics

HOW IT WORKS

• It acts on the kidneys to increase removal of excess salt and water from the body
• Unlike some other diuretics, it helps the body retain potassium instead of losing it
• This balance helps protect against low potassium levels (hypokalemia) during diuretic treatment

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used alone to treat severe high blood pressure
• It is not a painkiller or anti-inflammatory medicine
• It is not used for infections or general body swelling unrelated to heart, liver, or kidney disease
• It should not be used to treat low potassium without medical supervision, as it can cause the opposite problem (high potassium)

How to Use Azilow 5 mg Tablets (Amiloride 5mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Take with food to reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Try to take it at the same time each day for best effect
• Avoid taking it late in the evening, as it may cause you to wake up to urinate
• Do not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have high potassium levels in your blood
• Have severe kidney disease or are on dialysis

• Have Addison's disease (untreated)
