Carvedilol 40mg is prescribed mainly to control high blood pressure and to manage chronic heart failure, and it is also used in some patients to improve survival after a heart attack.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Chronic heart failure, along with other heart medicines
- After a heart attack, to protect the heart muscle
HOW IT WORKS
- It blocks beta and alpha receptors in the heart and blood vessels
- This slows the heart rate and reduces the force of the heart's pumping
- It also widens blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and easing strain on the heart
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat chest pain immediately
- It is not used for asthma or breathing problems
- It is not a substitute for lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, or weight control

HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food to reduce dizziness
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor tells you to
- Take it at the same time(s) each day to maintain steady levels in the body
- Do not stop taking it suddenly, even if you feel well, as this can worsen your heart condition
- Continue regular check-ups so your doctor can monitor your heart rate and blood pressure
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
