This combination medicine is prescribed for infections caused by a mix of bacteria and anaerobic organisms, where both broad-spectrum antibacterial and anti-anaerobic action are needed together.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis or sinusitis with anaerobic involvement
- Dental and oral infections
- Gynaecological infections such as pelvic infections
- Gastrointestinal infections including some cases of dysentery or intestinal infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections with mixed bacterial cause
HOW IT WORKS
- Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall
- Ornidazole works against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites by damaging their DNA, stopping them from multiplying
- Together they cover a wider range of organisms than either drug alone
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- As a general painkiller or fever medicine
- Prevention of infection without a doctor's advice

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Stomach pain or discomfort
- Metallic taste in mouth
- Loss of appetite
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Skin rash or itching
- Vaginal itching or discharge (due to change in normal flora)
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing
- Severe watery or bloody diarrhoea (possible sign of colitis)
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
- Numbness, tingling or weakness in hands or feet
- Seizures or fits
- Unusual bleeding or bruising

How to Use CEFI-OZ TABLET (CEFIXIME (200MG) + ORNIDAZOLE (500MG))
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking with food may reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine and for at least 2-3 days after, as it can cause severe nausea and flushing with Ornidazole
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep in the original pack until it is time to take it
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

This is a prescription-only medicine in India and should be taken only under a doctor's supervision.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to Cefixime, other cephalosporin antibiotics, Ornidazole or other nitroimidazole drugs
- Have a history of severe allergic reaction to penicillin-type antibiotics (cross-allergy is possible)
- Have active neurological disorders like epilepsy, unless advised otherwise by your doctor
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have a history of stomach or intestinal disease such as colitis
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Have any blood disorder
- Are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Blood thinners such as warfarin
- Disulfiram or other alcohol-deterrent medicines
- Lithium
- Other antibiotics or antiepileptic drugs
- Oral contraceptive pills (effectiveness may reduce)
