This combination medicine is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to it.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and sinusitis
• Ear infections
• Throat infections
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Typhoid fever caused by susceptible bacteria

HOW IT WORKS

• Cefixime stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall, which kills them
• Clavulanic acid blocks an enzyme some bacteria use to destroy cefixime, so the antibiotic keeps working
• Together, they widen the range of bacteria this medicine can treat, including some resistant strains

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not treat viral infections such as common cold or flu
• It does not work on fungal infections
• It should not be used to treat symptoms without a confirmed or suspected bacterial infection
• It is not a painkiller or fever medicine on its own

• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Severe abdominal pain

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with a full glass of water
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says so
• Take doses at evenly spaced times to keep a steady level of medicine in your body
• Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
• Do not stop early, as this can lead to the infection coming back or becoming resistant to treatment

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to cefixime, clavulanic acid, penicillins or other cephalosporin antibiotics
