Uses and Benefits of CIFRAN CT TABLET (CIPROFLOXACIN 500MG + TINIDAZOLE 600MG)

This combination is mainly used to treat mixed infections of the intestines and abdomen where both bacteria and anaerobic parasites are responsible.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Diarrhoea caused by mixed bacterial and parasitic infection
• Intestinal amoebiasis
• Abdominal infections following surgery
• Infections of the reproductive and urinary tract caused by mixed organisms
• Complicated gastrointestinal infections as advised by a doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that stops bacteria from multiplying by blocking enzymes needed for their DNA replication
• Tinidazole is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent that damages the DNA of parasites and anaerobic bacteria, killing them
• Together they cover a broader range of organisms than either medicine alone

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Common cold, flu, or viral fever
• Simple viral diarrhoea without infection
• Fungal infections
• Preventive use without a diagnosed infection
• Long-term use without medical supervision

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Stomach pain

• Metallic taste in mouth

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Skin rash
• Vaginal itching or discharge
• Sleep disturbance

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe diarrhoea with blood or mucus
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Severe skin reaction with blisters or peeling
• Sudden swelling of face, lips, or throat with breathing difficulty
• Tendon pain, swelling, or rupture, especially in the ankle
• Seizures or severe confusion
• Numbness or tingling in hands or feet
• Irregular heartbeat

How to Use CIFRAN CT TABLET (CIPROFLOXACIN 500MG + TINIDAZOLE 600MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food to reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water
• Do not crush or chew unless your doctor advises
• Complete the full course even if you feel better early, to prevent the infection from returning or becoming resistant
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 2 days after finishing, as it can cause severe nausea and vomiting
• Take at the same time each day for consistent effect

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
• Try to maintain a regular dosing schedule

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack
• Do not store in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink

This is a prescription-only medicine in India and should be used only under medical supervision.

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to ciprofloxacin, tinidazole, or other similar antibiotics
• Have a history of tendon problems linked to fluoroquinolone antibiotics
• Have a known blood disorder
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have epilepsy or any seizure disorder
• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have a heart rhythm problem or are on heart medicines
• Have myasthenia gravis
• Are diabetic or on blood-thinning medicines
• Are elderly, as risk of tendon problems is higher

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Blood thinners like warfarin
• Antacids, calcium, iron, or zinc supplements, which reduce absorption
• Theophylline and other seizure-threshold-lowering drugs
• Other medicines affecting heart rhythm
• Alcohol-containing products or medicines
