This combination medicine is commonly prescribed for infections of the intestines and urinary tract that involve both bacteria and anaerobic organisms, such as diarrhoea, dysentery, and complicated urinary or abdominal infections.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Bacterial and amoebic diarrhoea or dysentery
• Complicated urinary tract infections
• Intra-abdominal infections
• Mixed infections after certain surgeries as advised by doctor
• Typhoid-like infections in some cases

HOW IT WORKS

• Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that stops bacteria from copying their DNA, killing them
• Ornidazole is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent that damages the DNA of anaerobic bacteria and parasites like amoeba
• Together they cover a broader range of organisms causing mixed infections

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Common cold, flu, or viral fever
• Simple viral diarrhoea without bacterial or parasitic cause
• Fungal infections
• As a general painkiller or fever medicine

• Severe watery or bloody diarrhoea
• Tendon pain, swelling, or sudden difficulty moving a joint
• Numbness, tingling, or weakness in hands or feet
• Seizures or severe confusion
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing
• Irregular heartbeat

How to Use CIFRAN OZ TABLET (CIPROFLOXACIN 500MG + ORNIDAZOLE 500MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or after food to reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water
• Do not take with milk, yogurt, or calcium/iron-fortified foods alone, as they can reduce absorption
• Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Take doses at evenly spaced times each day
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after finishing

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to ciprofloxacin, ornidazole, or other quinolone/nitroimidazole medicines
• Have a history of tendon problems linked to fluoroquinolone use
• Have certain nerve disorders like epilepsy that are not well controlled

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have a history of seizures or nervous system disorders
• Have heart rhythm problems or take medicines affecting heart rhythm
• Are diabetic or elderly

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Antacids, calcium, iron, or zinc supplements
• Blood thinners like warfarin
• Theophylline or other medicines for asthma
• Medicines that affect heart rhythm (QT prolonging drugs)
• Disulfiram or other medicines affecting alcohol metabolism
