This combination is used to treat various bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, ear, sinus, skin, urinary tract and other parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections like bronchitis and pneumonia
- Ear, nose and throat infections such as sinusitis and tonsillitis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Dental infections
- Bone and joint infections in some cases
HOW IT WORKS
- Amoxycillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall
- Clavulanic acid blocks an enzyme that some bacteria use to destroy amoxycillin
- Together they widen the range of bacteria this medicine can treat
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections like common cold, flu or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- As a general painkiller or fever reducer
- Without proper diagnosis of a bacterial infection

- Unusual bleeding or bruising

How to Use CLAVAM-XR TABLET (Amoxycillin 1000mg + Clavulanic Acid 62.5mg)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually at evenly spaced intervals
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop
- Do not skip doses or take extra to make up for a missed one
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
- Do not double the dose
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- If a reconstituted syrup form is used, store as instructed on the label, usually in a refrigerator, and discard after the stated number of days

- Have a history of allergies or asthma
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
- Have any bleeding disorders
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Blood thinners such as warfarin
- Methotrexate used for cancer or arthritis
- Allopurinol used for gout
- Oral contraceptive pills, as effectiveness may be reduced
- Other antibiotics being taken at the same time
