Cefuroxime Axetil 500mg is used to treat bacterial infections in different parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
• Ear, nose and throat infections like tonsillitis and sinusitis
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Some sexually transmitted infections as advised by a doctor
• Early stage Lyme disease

HOW IT WORKS

• It belongs to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics
• It stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall
• Without a proper cell wall, the bacteria die and the infection is cleared
• It works against many common gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not work against viral infections like common cold or flu
• It is not used for fungal infections
• It should not be used without a prescription just because symptoms seem similar to a past infection
• It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain on its own

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• It is best taken after food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it
• Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
• Take doses at evenly spaced times each day as advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss several doses, inform your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Discard any unused or expired medicine safely, do not flush it down the drain
