This combination medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and a single medicine alone are not enough to control blood sugar.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Controlling high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) in type 2 diabetes
- Used along with diet and exercise for better blood sugar control
- Sometimes used with other diabetes medicines as advised by the doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin
- Metformin decreases glucose production by the liver
- Metformin also helps the body's cells use insulin more effectively
- Together they help lower blood sugar levels more effectively than either alone
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for type 1 diabetes
- Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis, a medical emergency

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Severe low blood sugar with confusion, seizures, or loss of consciousness
- Signs of lactic acidosis: unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, severe tiredness, stomach pain
- Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
- Severe allergic reaction: swelling of face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing, severe rash
- Dark urine or unusual bleeding/bruising

HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with breakfast or the first main meal of the day
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Do not skip meals after taking this medicine, as it can cause low blood sugar
- Continue diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes advised by your doctor
- Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
- If you miss doses often, inform your doctor

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
