Uses and Benefits of HERPEX 200MG TABLET (Aciclovir 200mg)

Aciclovir 200mg is used to treat infections caused by certain viruses, mainly from the herpes family.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Genital herpes infections (first episode and recurrent)
• Cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus
• Chickenpox (varicella) in certain patients
• Shingles (herpes zoster)
• Prevention of recurrent herpes outbreaks in some patients, as advised by the doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It gets converted inside virus-infected cells into an active form
• This active form blocks an enzyme the virus needs to copy its genetic material
• This stops the virus from multiplying and spreading further
• It helps reduce pain, speeds up healing, and shortens the duration of the outbreak

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not cure herpes infection completely; the virus stays dormant in the body
• It is not effective against bacterial infections
• It is not used for common cold or flu, which are caused by different viruses
• It does not prevent transmission of herpes to others completely, so precautions are still needed

• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Unusual bleeding, bruising, or signs of low blood counts such as severe tiredness or repeated infections

How to Use HERPEX 200MG TABLET (Aciclovir 200mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the times advised
• Can be taken with or without food, unless your doctor says otherwise
• Swallow the tablet with a full glass of water
• Drink plenty of fluids during the course unless advised to restrict fluids
• Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
• Do not increase or reduce the dose on your own

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses frequently, inform your doctor as it may reduce effectiveness

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink
