Uses and Benefits of LEON OZ TABLET (LEVOFLOXACIN 250MG + ORNIDAZOLE 500MG)

This combination is prescribed for infections where both bacteria and anaerobic organisms or protozoa are likely involved, such as certain gut, abdominal and pelvic infections.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Infectious diarrhoea and dysentery
• Intra-abdominal infections
• Complicated urinary tract infections with mixed infection
• Gynaecological infections
• Surgical site or post-operative infections where anaerobes are suspected

HOW IT WORKS

• Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that stops bacteria from copying their DNA, killing them
• Ornidazole is an antiprotozoal/antibacterial that damages the DNA of anaerobic bacteria and protozoa
• Together they cover a wider range of organisms than either drug alone

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral infections like common cold or flu
• Simple fungal infections
• Uncomplicated infections not needing dual coverage
• Preventive use without doctor's advice

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Abdominal discomfort
• Metallic taste in mouth
• Headache
• Dizziness

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Loss of appetite
• Sleep disturbance
• Skin rash or itching
• Vaginal itching or discharge
• Numbness or tingling in hands/feet

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Tendon pain or swelling, especially in the ankle (risk of tendon rupture)
• Severe diarrhoea with blood (possible colitis)
• Seizures or fits
• Signs of allergic reaction: swelling of face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing, severe rash
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (liver problems)
• Sudden mood changes, confusion, or hallucinations
• Muscle weakness or difficulty in movement

How to Use LEON OZ TABLET (LEVOFLOXACIN 250MG + ORNIDAZOLE 500MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with a full glass of water
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking after food may reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Complete the full course even if you feel better early, to prevent resistance
• Avoid taking with antacids, calcium, iron or zinc supplements at the same time; leave a gap of a few hours
• Drink plenty of water during the course
• Avoid excessive sun exposure as this medicine can increase sensitivity to sunlight

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to levofloxacin, ornidazole, or other fluoroquinolones/nitroimidazoles
• Have a history of tendon disorders linked to fluoroquinolones
• Have epilepsy or a seizure disorder
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have a heart rhythm problem or are on medicines affecting heart rhythm
• Have diabetes
• Have a history of nerve problems (neuropathy)
• Are elderly, as risk of tendon problems is higher
• Consume alcohol regularly

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Antacids, calcium, iron or zinc supplements (reduce absorption)
• Warfarin or other blood thinners
• NSAIDs like ibuprofen (increased risk of seizures)
• Medicines that affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation)
• Corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk)
• Alcohol (may increase side effects like nausea and dizziness)
