Uses and Benefits of LEVESAM SYRUP (LEVETIRACETAM (500MG/5ML))
This medicine is mainly used to treat epilepsy and control different types of seizures.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Partial (focal) onset seizures in adults and children
- Myoclonic seizures in patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy
- Primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures
- Often used together with other anti-epileptic medicines
HOW IT WORKS
- Acts on a protein in brain cells called SV2A, which helps control the release of chemical messengers
- Reduces abnormal, excessive electrical activity in the brain that causes seizures
- Helps stabilise nerve cell activity, lowering the frequency of seizures
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not a painkiller or fever medicine
- Not used for anxiety or sleep problems
- Not a cure for epilepsy; it only controls seizures while being taken
- Not for use in seizures caused by low blood sugar or other treatable, non-epileptic causes

- Signs of severe allergic reaction like swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing
- Severe skin reaction with blistering, peeling or rash with fever
- Unusual muscle weakness, uncontrollable movements, or loss of coordination
- Signs of liver or kidney problems like yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine, or reduced urination

How to Use LEVESAM SYRUP (LEVETIRACETAM (500MG/5ML))
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
- Use the measuring cup or oral syringe provided; do not use a regular kitchen spoon
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
- Shake the bottle well before use if instructed on the label
- Do not stop the medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can trigger seizures
- Swallow the dose directly or mix with a small amount of water/juice if advised by your doctor
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
- Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one
- If you miss doses often, discuss a reminder system with your doctor or pharmacist
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not freeze the liquid
- Discard any unused portion after the period mentioned on the label once opened
