Uses and Benefits of LOSAR H TABLET (Losartan 50mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg)

This combination medicine is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) when a single medicine is not enough to control it.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Control of high blood pressure
• Used when blood pressure is not controlled by losartan alone
• Helps reduce risk of stroke and heart problems linked to high blood pressure

HOW IT WORKS

• Losartan blocks a hormone (angiotensin II) that tightens blood vessels, helping vessels relax
• Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (water pill) that helps kidneys remove extra salt and water
• Together they lower blood pressure more effectively than either alone

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not a painkiller
• Not used for immediate emergency lowering of blood pressure
• Not a treatment for infections
• Not recommended for use during pregnancy
• Not a first-choice medicine for initial treatment unless doctor decides combination is needed

• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
• Very reduced urine output

How to Use LOSAR H TABLET (Losartan 50mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as blood pressure control needs continuous treatment
• Do not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Keep in the original container or blister strip until it is time to take it

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
• Are breastfeeding
• Have a known allergy to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamide medicines
• Have severe kidney disease or are unable to pass urine
• Have severe liver disease

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver problems
• Have gout or high uric acid levels
• Have low blood pressure or are prone to dehydration
• Have had recent heavy vomiting or diarrhoea
• Are taking any other blood pressure medicines

• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen
• Lithium
• Certain diabetes medicines
