Uses and Benefits of MONO SORBITRATE 10MG TABLET (ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE 10MG)

Isosorbide Mononitrate is mainly used to prevent episodes of chest pain (angina) in people with coronary heart disease.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of angina (chest pain) attacks
• Long-term management of coronary artery disease along with other medicines
• Sometimes used to reduce strain on the heart in certain heart conditions, as advised by a doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Relaxes and widens (dilates) blood vessels, including those supplying the heart
• Reduces the workload on the heart by lowering the amount of blood returning to it
• Improves blood and oxygen flow to the heart muscle, reducing chest pain episodes

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not treat an ongoing heart attack and is not a substitute for emergency treatment
• It is not used to relieve sudden acute angina attacks (fast-acting nitrate forms are used for that)
• It is not a painkiller for other types of pain
• It is not used to treat high blood pressure as a first-choice medicine

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache (often occurs when starting treatment)
• Dizziness
• Flushing of the face
• Weakness

• Fast or irregular heartbeat
• Blurred vision

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe dizziness, fainting, or feeling like you may collapse
• Chest pain that is different, more severe, or does not go away
• Severe skin rash, swelling of face/lips/throat, or difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)
• Very slow heartbeat or severe weakness

How to Use MONO SORBITRATE 10MG TABLET (ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE 10MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
• Swallow the tablet with water; it can be taken with or without food
• Try to take doses at the same times each day, leaving the recommended gap between doses to prevent tolerance
• Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist says it is safe to do so
• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can worsen chest pain

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the tablets in their original packaging until use
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to isosorbide mononitrate or other nitrates
• Are taking medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil
• Have severe low blood pressure
• Have certain conditions like severe anaemia or a specific heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (unless advised otherwise by your doctor)
