Tirzepatide is mainly used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus, and in some cases for chronic weight management along with diet and exercise.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- To improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes
- To help with weight loss in adults with obesity or excess weight, along with lifestyle changes
- Sometimes used along with other diabetes medicines as advised by your doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It acts on two natural hormone receptors (GIP and GLP-1) in the body
- It helps the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar is high
- It slows down stomach emptying, which reduces appetite and helps control blood sugar spikes after meals
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for type 1 diabetes
- It is not a treatment for diabetic ketoacidosis
- It is not meant for quick or cosmetic weight loss without medical supervision
- It is not a substitute for insulin in patients who need insulin therapy

- Symptoms of very low blood sugar such as shakiness, sweating, confusion, or fainting
- Reduced urination or signs of kidney problems
- Vision changes
- Signs of gallbladder problems such as pain in the upper right abdomen, fever, or yellowing of skin/eyes

How to Use MOUNJARO 2.5MG KWIKPEN (Tirzepatide 2.5mg)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- It is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous), usually in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm
- It is usually given once a week, on the same day each week
- Can be taken with or without food
- Rotate the injection site each time to avoid skin problems
- Do not inject into muscle or vein
- Follow the instructions given with the injection device carefully, or ask your pharmacist to demonstrate
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, if it has been less than a few days since the missed dose
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule
- Do not take two doses close together to make up for a missed one
- Contact your doctor if you are unsure what to do
STORAGE
- Store in a refrigerator, away from direct contact with the freezer
- Once in use, some pens may be kept at room temperature for a limited period as per the manufacturer's instructions
- Keep away from light and out of reach of children
- Do not use if the liquid looks cloudy, discoloured, or has particles in it

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients
- Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma
- Have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2
- Are pregnant or planning pregnancy, unless specifically advised by your doctor

- Have a history of pancreatitis
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have diabetic retinopathy or eye problems
- Have a history of gallbladder disease
- Are breastfeeding

- Warfarin and other blood thinners
