Uses and Benefits of NITROLONG 2.6MG TABLET (Nitroglycerin 2.6mg)
Nitroglycerin 2.6mg is mainly used for the long-term prevention of angina (chest pain) related to coronary artery disease.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Prevention of angina attacks in people with known coronary artery disease
- Long-term management of chronic stable angina
- Reducing frequency of chest pain episodes when used regularly as advised
HOW IT WORKS
- Relaxes and widens (dilates) blood vessels, including coronary arteries
- Increases blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle
- Reduces the workload on the heart by lowering the pressure it has to pump against
- Sustained-release form gives a steady effect over the day rather than a quick short action
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used to treat a sudden, ongoing heart attack
- Not meant for immediate relief of an acute angina attack already in progress (fast-acting sublingual nitrate forms are used for that)
- Not used to treat high blood pressure alone
- Not a painkiller for non-heart related chest pain
- Not used for erectile dysfunction treatment
