Uses and Benefits of NORILET 400MG TABLET (NORFLOXACIN 400MG)
Norfloxacin 400mg is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, particularly those affecting the urinary tract and gastrointestinal system.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Urinary tract infections (UTI)
- Bacterial diarrhoea and certain gut infections
- Some infections of the prostate
- Certain sexually transmitted infections, as advised by a doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones
- It blocks enzymes that bacteria need to copy their DNA
- This stops bacteria from multiplying and eventually kills them
- It only works against bacteria, not viruses or fungi
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not treat viral infections like common cold or flu
- It is not used for fungal infections
- It should not be used to self-treat every episode of loose motions without medical advice
- It is not a painkiller and does not relieve fever on its own

- Signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing, or severe rash
- Unusual tingling, numbness, or weakness in hands or feet
- Seizures or severe confusion
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
- Irregular heartbeat or palpitations

How to Use NORILET 400MG TABLET (NORFLOXACIN 400MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually on an empty stomach
- Swallow the tablet with a full glass of water
- Avoid taking it with milk, dairy products, or antacids at the same time, as these can reduce absorption
- Drink plenty of water through the day while on this medicine
- Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop
- Do not share this medicine with others or use leftover tablets for a new illness
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

- Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
- Keep in a dry place, away from moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to norfloxacin or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics
- Are a child or young growing adult, unless specifically advised by a doctor
- Have a history of tendon problems linked to fluoroquinolone use
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have epilepsy or any seizure disorder
- Have a history of heart rhythm problems
- Have myasthenia gravis or muscle weakness disorders
- Are elderly, as risk of tendon injury may be higher
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Antacids, calcium, iron, or zinc supplements (reduce absorption)
- Theophylline (used for breathing problems)
- Blood thinners like warfarin
- NSAIDs like ibuprofen (may increase risk of seizures)
- Other medicines that affect heart rhythm
