Methotrexate is mainly used to treat autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, as well as certain cancers, by controlling abnormal immune activity and cell growth.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Rheumatoid arthritis and other joint-related autoimmune conditions
- Severe psoriasis that has not responded to other treatments
- Certain types of cancer, such as leukemia, as part of chemotherapy
- Psoriatic arthritis and some other autoimmune disorders as advised by a specialist
HOW IT WORKS
- Methotrexate blocks an enzyme needed for cell division, slowing down fast-growing cells
- It reduces the activity of the immune system, which lowers inflammation and joint damage
- In cancer, it helps stop the rapid multiplication of abnormal cells
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller and will not give immediate relief from pain or swelling
- It is not used for common infections or fevers

How to Use ONCOTREX 2.5MG TABLET (METHOTREXATE 2.5MG)
Methotrexate must be taken exactly as prescribed, and mistakes in timing can be dangerous.
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take this medicine only once a week, on the same day each week, unless your doctor has told you otherwise
- Take it with or without food, as advised by your doctor
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water
- Your doctor may also prescribe folic acid on other days of the week to reduce side effects — take this only as directed
- Do not increase or change your dose without consulting your doctor
- Attend all scheduled blood tests to monitor your liver, kidney, and blood cell counts
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Contact your doctor or pharmacist for guidance rather than doubling the dose
- Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed one, since this can be dangerous
