Uses and Benefits of ONCOTREX 5MG TABLET (METHOTREXATE 5MG)

Methotrexate is used to treat autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, and certain types of cancer, by controlling overactive immune activity or abnormal cell growth.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune joint diseases
• Severe psoriasis not controlled by other treatments
• Certain types of cancer as part of chemotherapy
• Some other autoimmune conditions as advised by a specialist

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks an enzyme needed for cell division, slowing down rapidly multiplying cells
• This reduces inflammation and immune overactivity in autoimmune diseases
• In cancer, it helps stop growth of cancer cells

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and will not give immediate relief from joint pain
• It is not used for common infections or fever
• It is not suitable for use during pregnancy
• It should not be used without regular blood test monitoring

How to Use ONCOTREX 5MG TABLET (METHOTREXATE 5MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a week on the same day each week, unless told otherwise for cancer treatment
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food
• Do not increase or change your dose without consulting your doctor
• Take folic acid supplements if advised, to reduce side effects
• Never take this medicine daily by mistake, as this can be dangerous

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Contact your doctor or pharmacist for guidance rather than doubling the next dose
• Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed one
• Keep a note or reminder of your weekly dosing day to avoid missing doses

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Dispose of unused medicine safely, do not flush down the toilet
