Uses and Benefits of PECEF DUO 200 TABLET (CEFPODOXIME PROXETIL 200MG + CLAVULANIC ACID 125MG)
This combination medicine is prescribed to treat a range of bacterial infections in adults and children.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
- Ear, nose and throat infections including sinusitis and tonsillitis
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Other bacterial infections as diagnosed by your doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall
- Some bacteria produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase that destroys antibiotics like cefpodoxime
- Clavulanic acid blocks this enzyme, protecting cefpodoxime and widening the range of bacteria it can kill
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- As a painkiller or fever medicine on its own
- Preventing infections without medical advice
Always complete the full course as prescribed, even if you feel better early, to prevent the infection from returning or bacteria becoming resistant.
