Uses and Benefits of REVIRO 300MG TABLET (TENOFOVIR DISOPROXIL FUMARATE 300MG)
Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate is used to treat viral infections, mainly chronic Hepatitis B and, in combination with other antiviral medicines, HIV infection.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of chronic Hepatitis B infection in adults
- Treatment of HIV-1 infection, always combined with other antiretroviral medicines
- Sometimes used for pre-exposure prevention (PrEP) of HIV as advised by a doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It belongs to a class of antivirals called nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors
- It blocks an enzyme the virus needs to multiply
- This reduces the amount of virus in the blood and helps protect the immune system
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not cure Hepatitis B or HIV infection
- It is not used for Hepatitis A or Hepatitis C
- It is not a treatment for common viral infections like flu or cold
- It should not be used alone to prevent HIV without medical supervision

- Severe tiredness with rapid breathing, nausea and vomiting (may indicate lactic acidosis)
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
- Sudden worsening of Hepatitis B after stopping the medicine
- Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or difficulty breathing

How to Use REVIRO 300MG TABLET (TENOFOVIR DISOPROXIL FUMARATE 300MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, especially if being treated for Hepatitis B
- Continue regular blood tests and doctor visits as advised to monitor kidney function and viral levels
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- Try to take your doses at the same time each day to maintain steady levels in the body

- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep the tablet in its original container until it is time to take it
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to tenofovir disoproxil fumarate or any other ingredient in the tablet
- Have severe kidney impairment without medical supervision
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have any kidney disease or reduced kidney function
- Have liver disease, including Hepatitis B or C
- Have bone problems such as osteoporosis
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Are taking other medicines for HIV or Hepatitis B
- Have a history of lactic acidosis or other metabolic conditions
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Other nephrotoxic drugs (medicines that affect the kidney) such as certain antibiotics or NSAIDs
- Other antiviral medicines like adefovir
- Certain HIV medicines such as atazanavir or lopinavir/ritonavir (dose adjustments may be needed)
- Medicines that reduce stomach acid may alter absorption in some combinations
- Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking
