Phenytoin Sodium is mainly used to treat and prevent seizures (fits) in people with epilepsy.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Control of generalised tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures
- Control of partial (focal) seizures
- Prevention of seizures during and after brain surgery or head injury
- Management of status epilepticus (as directed by a doctor in hospital settings)
HOW IT WORKS
- It stabilises the membranes of nerve cells in the brain
- It reduces the spread of abnormal electrical activity that causes seizures
- It helps prevent repeated firing of overactive nerve cells
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat headaches
- It is not used for absence (petit mal) seizures, and may worsen them
- It is not a cure for epilepsy; it only controls seizures while taken regularly
- It is not meant for occasional or as-needed use

How to Use SOLPHEN 100MG TABLET (PHENYTOIN SODIUM 100MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually by mouth with water
- Can be taken with or after food to reduce stomach upset
- Swallow tablets whole; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Take at the same time(s) each day to maintain steady blood levels
- Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can trigger seizures

IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
