Uses and Benefits of TAH 80 TABLET (Telmisartan 80mg + Amlodipine 5mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg)
This combination medicine is mainly prescribed for the long-term control of high blood pressure (hypertension), especially when treatment with one or two blood pressure medicines alone is not enough.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treating high blood pressure in adults
- Helping reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems linked to long-term high blood pressure
- Used as add-on therapy when blood pressure is not controlled by a single medicine
HOW IT WORKS
- Telmisartan blocks a hormone (angiotensin II) that narrows blood vessels, helping vessels relax
- Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into vessel muscle cells
- Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, lowering blood volume
- Together, these three actions lower blood pressure more effectively than one medicine alone
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for immediate emergency lowering of dangerously high blood pressure
- Not a treatment for chest pain occurring suddenly (acute angina attack)
- Not intended for initial treatment of mild, newly-diagnosed high blood pressure without doctor evaluation
- Not a substitute for lifestyle changes like diet, exercise and reducing salt intake
