WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and sinusitis
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Typhoid fever caused by susceptible bacteria
HOW IT WORKS
- Cefixime kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective outer wall
- Clavulanic acid blocks certain bacterial enzymes that would otherwise destroy cefixime
- Together they widen the range of bacteria the medicine can act against
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- Preventing infection without a confirmed or suspected bacterial cause
- Self-medication without medical advice, as inappropriate use increases antibiotic resistance
Always complete the full course as advised by your doctor, even if you feel better before finishing it, to prevent the infection from returning or bacteria becoming resistant.
