Uses and Benefits of TELEKAST 4MG. TABLET (MONTELUKAST4MG)

Montelukast 4mg is mainly used to treat and prevent symptoms of asthma and to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, runny nose and nasal congestion.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Long-term control and prevention of asthma symptoms
• Prevention of exercise-induced breathing difficulty
• Relief of seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis symptoms

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks leukotrienes, chemicals released by the body during allergic reactions
• Reduces swelling and narrowing of airways
• Helps decrease mucus production and nasal congestion

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used to treat a sudden asthma attack or sudden breathlessness
• Not a rescue inhaler substitute and cannot replace fast-relief inhalers
• Not used for infections, cough due to cold, or other unrelated respiratory illnesses

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache
• Stomach pain
• Tiredness
• Fever
• Cough

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness
• Skin rash
• Dry mouth
• Indigestion
• Restlessness or trouble sleeping

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing
• Mood changes, agitation, aggressive behaviour, depression or thoughts of self-harm
• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Numbness, tingling or worsening of asthma symptoms despite regular use

How to Use TELEKAST 4MG. TABLET (MONTELUKAST4MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not chew if it is a plain tablet, unless it is a chewable formulation
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as it works best when used daily
• Do not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original packaging until ready to use
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to montelukast or any of its ingredients
• Are self-treating a sudden asthma attack without a rescue inhaler

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have liver disease
• Have a history of mental health conditions like depression or suicidal thoughts
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Have phenylketonuria, if taking a chewable form containing aspartame
• Are already using other asthma medicines or steroids

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Phenobarbital and phenytoin (seizure medicines)
• Rifampicin (antibiotic)
• Other asthma or allergy medicines, unless advised by your doctor
• Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements or herbal products you take
