WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Management of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders
- Severe behavioural problems that have not responded to other treatments
- Short-term treatment of anxiety in patients not helped by other medicines, when prescribed by a specialist
HOW IT WORKS
- Thioridazine blocks certain chemical messengers (like dopamine) in the brain

- It also has calming and sedative effects that help with agitation
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a treatment for ordinary stress or everyday nervousness
- It is not used for depression alone without psychotic features
- It is not a first-choice medicine and is generally reserved for cases where other treatments have failed, due to heart-related risks
This medicine should only be used under close supervision of a psychiatrist, with regular heart monitoring, because of its known effects on heart rhythm.
