Uses and Benefits of THYRONORM 125MCG TABLET (THYROXINE 12.5MCG)
This composition is mainly used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treating low thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism)
- Managing thyroid hormone levels after thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment
- Used along with other treatment in some cases of enlarged thyroid (goitre)
- Sometimes used to keep thyroid hormone levels steady in people being treated for thyroid cancer, as directed by a specialist
HOW IT WORKS
- It replaces the natural thyroid hormone that the body is lacking
- This helps restore normal body metabolism, energy levels, and organ function
- The low 12.5mcg strength is often used as a starting dose or for fine-tuning the dose in sensitive patients, such as older adults or those with heart conditions
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a treatment for an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism)
- It is not a weight-loss medicine and should never be used for that purpose
- It does not give quick relief of symptoms; benefits build up gradually over weeks
