Ticagrelor 60mg is mainly used to lower the risk of future heart attacks and strokes in people who have a history of heart attack or acute coronary syndrome, especially after the first year of treatment.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• To reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in patients with a history of heart attack
• Used long-term after the initial higher dose treatment phase
• Usually prescribed along with low-dose aspirin

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks a receptor on platelets called P2Y12
• This stops platelets from clumping together and forming clots
• Reduces the chance of blood clots blocking arteries supplying the heart or brain

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not a painkiller and does not treat chest pain directly
• Not used for routine blood thinning without a heart-related indication

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush unless advised by your doctor
• Continue taking it even if you feel well, unless your doctor tells you to stop
• Do not stop this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can increase the risk of heart attack
