Uses and Benefits of TINIMOX TABLET (AMOXYCILLIN 500MG + TINIDAZOLE 300MG)

This combination is mainly used to treat infections where both bacteria and anaerobic organisms or protozoa are involved.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Dental and gum infections (like abscesses, periodontitis)
• Infections after tooth extraction or oral surgery
• Intestinal infections caused by amoeba or certain bacteria
• Some gynaecological infections
• Mixed skin and soft tissue infections

HOW IT WORKS

• Amoxycillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their cell wall
• Tinidazole works against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by damaging their genetic material
• Together they cover a broader range of organisms than either drug alone

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral infections like common cold, flu, or most sore throats
• Fungal infections
• As a general painkiller or fever medicine
• Long-term prevention of infections

Side Effects of TINIMOX TABLET (AMOXYCILLIN 500MG + TINIDAZOLE 300MG)

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Metallic or bitter taste in mouth
• Stomach discomfort or bloating
• Loss of appetite

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Skin rash or itching
• Vaginal itching or discharge (due to yeast overgrowth)
• Darkening of urine

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe allergic reaction: swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat, difficulty breathing
• Severe skin reactions: blistering, peeling skin, widespread rash
• Severe or bloody diarrhoea (may indicate a serious bowel infection)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, signs of liver problems
• Unusual tingling, numbness, or weakness in hands or feet
• Seizures or confusion

How to Use TINIMOX TABLET (AMOXYCILLIN 500MG + TINIDAZOLE 300MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the dose and duration advised
• Usually taken with or after food to reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says so
• Complete the full course even if you feel better early — stopping early can cause the infection to return or become resistant to treatment
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 2-3 days after finishing, as it can cause severe nausea, flushing, and vomiting with tinidazole

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one — do not double the dose
• Try to space doses evenly as advised by your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Discard any unused liquid suspension after the advised period, if applicable

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to penicillin, amoxycillin, tinidazole, metronidazole, or similar drugs
• Have a history of severe allergic reactions to antibiotics
• Have a blood disorder or active neurological disease (discuss with doctor)

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have liver or kidney disease
• Have a history of seizures or nervous system disorders
• Have glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
• Are on blood thinners like warfarin
• Have a history of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Warfarin and other blood thinners (increased bleeding risk)
• Methotrexate
• Oral contraceptive pills (effectiveness may reduce)
• Disulfiram or other alcohol-deterrent medicines
• Lithium
• Other antibiotics — take only as directed together
