Uses and Benefits of TIPTENGIO 10/5MG TABLET (EMPAGLIFLOZIN 10MG + LINAGLIPTIN 5MG)
This medicine is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, usually when diet, exercise and a single diabetes medicine are not enough to control blood sugar.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
- Used along with diet and exercise
- Sometimes used together with other diabetes medicines like metformin
HOW IT WORKS
- Empagliflozin blocks sugar reabsorption in the kidneys, causing extra sugar to pass out in urine
- Linagliptin increases natural hormones (incretins) that help the pancreas release more insulin when blood sugar is high
- Together they lower blood sugar through two different actions
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for type 1 diabetes
- Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis
- Not a treatment for weight loss, though some weight loss may occur
- Not a substitute for insulin in people who need insulin therapy

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Increased urination
- Thirst
- Urinary tract infection
- Genital yeast infection
- Mild headache
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Nausea
- Skin rash or itching
- Joint pain
- Low blood pressure or dizziness on standing
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Signs of ketoacidosis such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness or difficulty breathing, even with normal blood sugar
- Severe urinary or genital infection with fever and pain
- Signs of dehydration such as extreme thirst, dizziness or reduced urination
- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing
- Sudden severe pain in stomach that may spread to the back, which could indicate pancreatitis
- Symptoms of low blood sugar such as sweating, shakiness or confusion, especially if combined with other diabetes medicines

How to Use TIPTENGIO 10/5MG TABLET (EMPAGLIFLOZIN 10MG + LINAGLIPTIN 5MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
- Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time every day
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew
- Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as it is a long-term treatment
- Keep following your prescribed diet, exercise and blood sugar monitoring routine
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
- Keep the tablets in their original pack until it is time to take them
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
- Have severe kidney disease or are on dialysis
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Are allergic to empagliflozin, linagliptin or any ingredient in the tablet
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have a history of urinary tract or genital infections
- Have low blood pressure or are on water pills (diuretics)
- Have a history of pancreatitis
- Are planning surgery or have been advised to fast for a procedure
- Are elderly or have heart disease
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Other diabetes medicines including insulin and sulfonylureas, which may increase risk of low blood sugar
- Diuretics (water pills), which may increase risk of dehydration
- Certain blood pressure medicines
- Steroids and some other medicines that raise blood sugar

Can I drink alcohol while taking this medicine?
Alcohol can affect blood sugar control and increase side effect risk, so limit or avoid it and check with your doctor.
Will this medicine cause low blood sugar on its own?
Used alone it rarely causes low blood sugar, but risk increases if combined with insulin or other diabetes medicines.
Can I stop taking it once my sugar levels are normal?
- No, do not stop without consulting your doctor, as diabetes needs continuous management even when levels look normal.
