Uses and Benefits of TOZAAR 25 TABLET (LOSARTAN 25MG)

Losartan 25mg is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and related conditions.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating high blood pressure
• Protecting kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes and kidney disease
• Reducing risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and an enlarged heart
• Sometimes used to support heart failure treatment, as decided by the doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks the action of a chemical called angiotensin II that narrows blood vessels
• This causes blood vessels to relax and widen
• Widened blood vessels lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart
• Improves blood flow to the kidneys, helping protect them over time

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not a painkiller or fever medicine
• Not used to treat sudden, severe (emergency) high blood pressure crisis
• Not a cure for high blood pressure; it only controls it
• Not meant for use during pregnancy

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Muscle cramps
• Nasal congestion
• Sleep disturbances

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat with difficulty breathing
• Severe skin rash, itching or peeling skin
• Fainting or very low blood pressure
• Signs of high potassium such as irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, or dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Reduced urine output or swelling of legs (signs of kidney problems)

How to Use TOZAAR 25 TABLET (LOSARTAN 25MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
• Try to take it at the same time each day to build a routine
• Do not stop taking it suddenly even if you feel well, unless your doctor advises
• Continue regular blood pressure checks as advised by your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, set a reminder or ask your pharmacist for tips

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original pack until it is time to take it
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
• Are breastfeeding
• Have had an allergic reaction to losartan or similar medicines before
• Have severe liver disease, unless advised by your doctor
• Are taking certain diabetes medicines called aliskiren-containing products, especially if you have diabetes or kidney disease

• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have low blood pressure or are dehydrated
• Have heart failure or narrowing of heart valves
• Have high potassium levels in blood
• Are on a salt-restricted or potassium-rich diet

• Other blood pressure medicines
• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen
• Lithium
• Certain diabetes medicines like aliskiren
• Diuretics (water pills)
