WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)
• Sometimes used to reduce strain on the heart in patients with hypertension and certain heart conditions

HOW IT WORKS

• Losartan blocks angiotensin II, a chemical that narrows blood vessels, helping vessels relax and blood pressure to fall

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
• Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day
• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, especially the atenolol component, as it can cause a rebound rise in blood pressure or heart problems
• Continue taking it even if you feel well, since high blood pressure often has no symptoms

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
