Uses and Benefits of UDIHEP FORTE TABLET (URSODEOXYCHOLIC ACID)
Ursodeoxycholic acid is mainly used to treat gallstones made of cholesterol and certain chronic liver diseases where bile flow is reduced.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Dissolving small to medium sized cholesterol gallstones in people who cannot or do not want surgery
- Treating primary biliary cholangitis, a chronic liver disease
- Preventing gallstone formation in people undergoing rapid weight loss
- Managing certain other cholestatic liver disorders as advised by a doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It changes the composition of bile, making it less likely to form cholesterol crystals
- It reduces the amount of cholesterol absorbed and produced by the liver
- It helps protect liver cells and improves the flow of bile from the liver
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for gallstones made of calcium or pigment
- It is not a painkiller and will not relieve sudden severe gallbladder pain
- It is not used for acute liver failure
- It is not a substitute for surgery when gallstones are large or causing complications

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Loose stools or diarrhoea
- Nausea
- Stomach discomfort or bloating

- Hair thinning

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, or worsening jaundice
- Severe stomach pain, especially in the upper right side
- Signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face or lips, or difficulty breathing
- Unusual tiredness with dark urine or pale stools

How to Use UDIHEP FORTE TABLET (URSODEOXYCHOLIC ACID)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food or milk to reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet or capsule whole with water unless your doctor tells you otherwise
- Do not stop the medicine on your own even if you feel better, as gallstones may take months to dissolve
- Continue regular follow-up visits and scans as advised, since your doctor will check if the stones are dissolving
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
- Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to ursodeoxycholic acid or any bile acid medicines
- Have acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts
- Have a gallbladder that is not functioning or is blocked
- Have calcified gallstones, as confirmed by your doctor
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have any liver disease other than the one being treated
- Are taking oral contraceptives or hormone therapy
- Have any history of pancreatitis or bowel disease
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Cholesterol-lowering medicines such as cholestyramine or colestipol, which can reduce its absorption
- Antacids containing aluminium
- Oral contraceptives, which may reduce effectiveness of this medicine
- Certain cholesterol-lowering drugs like clofibrate
