Ursodeoxycholic Acid is mainly used for conditions related to the liver and gallbladder where bile does not flow or work normally.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Dissolving small cholesterol gallstones in people who cannot undergo surgery
• Treating primary biliary cholangitis, a chronic liver disease
• Managing liver problems caused by abnormal bile flow
• Sometimes used to prevent gallstones during rapid weight loss

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food to reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, do not crush or chew unless advised
• Take at the same time(s) each day for best results
• Continue for the full duration advised, even if you feel well, especially for gallstone dissolution
• Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to ursodeoxycholic acid or bile acid medicines
• Have acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile duct
• Have a gallbladder that does not show up on imaging (non-functioning gallbladder)
• Have blocked bile ducts
• Have calcified gallstones (as seen on X-ray)
