Uses and Benefits of VALPROL CR 500 TABLET (SODIUM VALPROATE 500MG)
Sodium Valproate is mainly used to treat epilepsy (seizures) and to manage certain mood disorders.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Controlling different types of seizures in epilepsy
- Preventing manic episodes in bipolar disorder
- Sometimes used for prevention of migraine headaches, as advised by a specialist
HOW IT WORKS
- It increases the activity of a calming brain chemical called GABA
- It stabilises electrical activity in the brain, reducing abnormal signalling that causes seizures
- This helps prevent seizures and also helps stabilise mood swings
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller for everyday headaches
- It is not used for anxiety or routine sleep problems
- It should not be used to treat epilepsy in pregnant women unless no other option works, due to risks to the baby
- It is not for occasional or one-time use; it works only with regular, continuous use

How to Use VALPROL CR 500 TABLET (SODIUM VALPROATE 500MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says it is fine
- Take with food to reduce stomach upset
- Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, even if you feel better, without consulting your doctor, as it may trigger seizures
- Take it at the same time(s) each day to maintain steady levels in the body
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- If you miss doses often, inform your doctor, as this can affect seizure control
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
- Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink
