Vilazodone is mainly used to treat depression in adults.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of major depressive disorder (clinical depression)
- Helping improve mood, sleep, appetite, and energy levels affected by depression
- Long-term management of depressive symptoms as advised by a doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It increases the availability of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain linked to mood regulation
- It acts as a partial agonist at certain serotonin receptors while also blocking serotonin reuptake
- This combined action helps restore the balance of brain chemicals affecting mood
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller or sleeping pill

- Manic episodes such as unusually elevated mood, racing thoughts, or reckless behaviour

How to Use VILAMID 40MG TABLET (VILAZODONE 40 MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
- Take it with food, as this helps absorption and reduces stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Try to take it at the same time every day for best results
- Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this may cause withdrawal symptoms
- It may take several weeks to feel the full benefit; continue taking it even if you do not notice immediate improvement
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to vilazodone or any of its ingredients
- Are currently taking or have recently stopped MAO inhibitors (within the last two weeks)
- Are taking other medicines that increase serotonin levels without medical supervision
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have a history of bipolar disorder or mania
- Have a history of bleeding disorders or are on blood thinners
- Have liver problems
- Have a history of seizures
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have had suicidal thoughts or behaviour in the past
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Other antidepressants such as SSRIs, SNRIs, or tricyclics
- MAO inhibitors
- Blood thinners like warfarin or aspirin
- Triptans used for migraine
- St. John's Wort or other herbal supplements affecting serotonin
- NSAIDs, which may increase bleeding risk when combined
