Uses and Benefits of VIROVIR 250MG TABLET (Famciclovir 250mg)

Famciclovir 250mg is prescribed for viral infections caused by the herpes family of viruses.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of shingles (herpes zoster) affecting the skin and nerves
• Treatment of genital herpes outbreaks
• Treatment of cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus in some cases
• Prevention of recurrent genital herpes episodes when taken regularly, as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Famciclovir is converted in the body to an active form called penciclovir
• This active form blocks the enzyme the herpes virus needs to copy its genetic material
• By stopping viral multiplication, it helps the body's immune system clear the infection faster
• It works best when started as early as possible after symptoms appear

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not cure herpes infection completely; the virus stays dormant in the body
• It is not effective against bacterial infections
• It is not used for common cold, flu, or other non-herpes viral infections
• It does not prevent transmission of herpes completely, so precautions are still needed

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water

• Complete the full course even if you start feeling better; stopping early may allow the virus to become active again
• Do not take more than the prescribed dose or for longer than advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use tablets after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Dispose of unused medicine safely, do not flush down the drain
