Uses and Benefits of VIROVIR 500MG TABLET (Famciclovir 500mg)

Famciclovir 500mg is prescribed to treat infections caused by the herpes virus, including shingles and genital herpes.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of shingles (herpes zoster) infection
• Treatment of genital herpes outbreaks
• Recurrent herpes infections in some patients
• Suppressive therapy to reduce frequency of herpes outbreaks, as advised by doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It is converted in the body into an active form that blocks the virus's ability to copy its genetic material
• This stops the virus from multiplying and spreading further
• It helps reduce pain, itching and speeds up healing of blisters and sores
• It works best when started early after symptoms begin

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not cure herpes infection completely; the virus remains dormant in the body
• It is not effective against bacterial or fungal infections
• It is not used for common cold sores caused by other conditions unless prescribed

• Significant reduction in urine output

How to Use VIROVIR 500MG TABLET (Famciclovir 500mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the dose and frequency advised
• It can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Try to start the medicine as soon as symptoms of herpes infection appear, for best results
• Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
• Drink plenty of water while taking this medicine unless your doctor advises otherwise

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss several doses, inform your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Dispose of unused medicine safely, do not flush down the drain
