Uses and Benefits of VOXITIN 20MG TABLET (VORTIOXETINE 20MG)

Vortioxetine 20mg is used to treat depression in adults.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of major depressive disorder (clinical depression)
• Helping improve mood, energy, sleep and interest in daily activities affected by depression
• Sometimes used to help with cognitive symptoms of depression such as concentration difficulty

HOW IT WORKS

• It increases the availability of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain
• It also affects certain serotonin receptors, which helps regulate mood, thinking and behaviour
• Full benefit usually takes a few weeks of regular use

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a quick-relief medicine for sudden sadness or occasional stress
• It is not used for anxiety attacks needing immediate relief
• It is not a sleeping pill, though sleep may improve as depression lifts
• It should not be used without medical supervision for children or during pregnancy without doctor's advice

• Thoughts of self-harm or suicide, especially in young adults
• Signs of serotonin syndrome such as agitation, high fever, fast heartbeat, muscle stiffness or twitching
• Severe allergic reaction: swelling of face, lips, throat, difficulty breathing, severe rash
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Seizures
• Severe low sodium symptoms like confusion, severe headache, or fainting

How to Use VOXITIN 20MG TABLET (VORTIOXETINE 20MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water
• Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better
• It may take several weeks to notice full benefit

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Try to take your dose at the same time each day to build a routine

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to vortioxetine or any ingredient in the tablet
• Are currently taking, or have recently stopped, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
• Have been advised against it by your doctor for any other reason

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have a history of bipolar disorder or mania
• Have had seizures or epilepsy
• Have liver or kidney disease
• Have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medicines
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have low sodium levels or are elderly
• Have a history of suicidal thoughts or self-harm

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• MAOIs and other antidepressants
• Blood thinners like warfarin or aspirin
• NSAID painkillers such as ibuprofen
• Other serotonin-affecting medicines (risk of serotonin syndrome)
• Medicines that affect liver enzymes, which may change vortioxetine levels
• Alcohol, which can increase drowsiness and side effects
