Olmesartan Medoxomil 20mg is mainly used to treat high blood pressure in adults.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating high blood pressure (hypertension)
• Sometimes used along with other blood pressure medicines for better control

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks the action of a natural chemical called angiotensin II that narrows blood vessels
• By blocking this chemical, blood vessels relax and widen
• This lowers blood pressure and reduces strain on the heart

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller
• It is not used to treat sudden chest pain or heart attack
• It is not a substitute for lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, and weight control
• It does not cure high blood pressure; it only helps control it while you keep taking it

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Tiredness or fatigue
• Nausea

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Diarrhoea or stomach upset
• Back pain or muscle pain
• Swelling in the legs or ankles
• Low blood pressure symptoms like lightheadedness

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat, and difficulty breathing
• Severe diarrhoea with significant weight loss (rare intestinal problem)
• Signs of kidney problems such as reduced urination or swelling
• Fainting or severe dizziness
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (signs of liver problems)

How to Use WINBP-20MG (OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL 20MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
• Can be taken with or without food
• Try to take it at the same time every day to help you remember
• Do not stop taking it suddenly even if you feel well, as blood pressure medicines usually need to be continued long term

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to olmesartan or any of its ingredients

• Are breastfeeding
• Have severe liver disease, unless advised by your doctor

• Have kidney disease
• Have diabetes, especially if you take medicines containing aliskiren
• Have heart failure
• Are on a low-salt diet or take potassium supplements
• Are dehydrated due to vomiting, diarrhoea, or heavy sweating
• Are scheduled for surgery or anaesthesia

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Other blood pressure medicines
• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen
• Lithium
• Medicines containing aliskiren, especially in diabetic or kidney patients
