WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• To reduce the risk of hospitalisation due to worsening heart failure
• To reduce the risk of death from heart-related causes in heart failure patients
• Used long-term as part of overall heart failure management, often with other medicines like beta-blockers or diuretics

HOW IT WORKS

• Sacubitril blocks an enzyme called neprilysin, which increases levels of natural substances that help the heart and blood vessels
• Valsartan blocks angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels, helping vessels relax and lowering blood pressure
• Together they reduce strain on the heart and improve its ability to pump blood

HOW TO TAKE IT

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
• Have had an allergic reaction to sacubitril, valsartan, or similar medicines (ACE inhibitors, ARBs)
• Have a history of angioedema related to ACE inhibitors or ARBs
• Are currently taking an ACE inhibitor (needs a gap between switching medicines)
• Have severe liver disease
