Ispaghula is mainly used to treat constipation and to help maintain regular bowel movements.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Relief of constipation
- Management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms
- Helping in mild diarrhoea by adding bulk to stools
- Use after certain bowel or rectal surgeries, piles, or fissures where soft stools are advised
- As a dietary fibre supplement when advised by a doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- It absorbs water in the intestine and swells up, forming a soft, bulky gel
- This bulk helps stimulate normal bowel movement and makes stools easier to pass
- In diarrhoea, it helps absorb excess water and firm up loose stools
- It also helps slow down absorption of sugar and cholesterol slightly, aiding gut health
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a treatment for infections causing diarrhoea
- It does not treat abdominal pain or bleeding from the rectum

- Stir well and drink immediately, as it thickens quickly
