This combination medicine is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially when a single medicine is not enough to control blood sugar.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used along with diet and exercise for better sugar control
• Used when metformin alone does not control blood sugar adequately

HOW IT WORKS

• Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin
• Sitagliptin helps the body produce more insulin after meals and reduces excess sugar production by the liver
• Metformin reduces sugar production by the liver and improves how the body uses insulin

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for type 1 diabetes
• Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious diabetes emergency)

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Metallic taste in mouth
• Skin rash or itching
• Mild weight changes

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe stomach pain with nausea and vomiting (may indicate pancreatitis)
• Unusual tiredness, muscle pain, difficulty breathing (signs of lactic acidosis)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Severe allergic reaction - swelling of face, lips, throat, difficulty breathing
• Signs of severe low blood sugar - confusion, blurred vision, fainting
• Joint pain that is severe and persistent

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset and control after-meal sugar spikes
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew
• Take at the same time(s) every day for best results
• Continue to follow a healthy diet and exercise routine along with this medicine
• Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, set reminders or speak to your doctor

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep in a dry place, away from moisture
• Keep out of reach of children

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to glimepiride, sitagliptin, metformin or any other ingredient
• Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
• Have severe kidney or liver disease
• Have a history of pancreatitis
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless advised by your doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver problems
• Have heart disease or heart failure
• Have a history of low blood sugar episodes
• Are going to have surgery or a scan involving contrast dye
• Drink alcohol regularly
• Are elderly, as dose adjustments may be needed

• Other diabetes medicines including insulin
• Steroids
• Diuretics (water pills)
• Certain blood pressure medicines
• NSAIDs (pain relievers like ibuprofen)
