Itraconazole is used to treat infections caused by fungi affecting different parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Fungal infections of the skin such as ringworm
• Fungal infections of the nails (onychomycosis)
• Fungal infections in the mouth and throat (oral thrush)
• Vaginal fungal infections
• Certain serious fungal infections of the lungs and other internal organs
• Fungal infections in people with weakened immunity, as advised by a doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Itraconazole belongs to a group of medicines called triazole antifungals
• It blocks an enzyme that fungi need to build their cell membrane
• This weakens the fungal cell wall and stops the fungus from growing and spreading
• Over time, this clears the infection

• It does not treat bacterial infections

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Do not take antacids at the same time; leave a gap of a few hours if you need one
