Uses and Benefits of JARDIANCE 25MG TABLET (EMPAGLIFLOZIN 25MG)

Empagliflozin 25mg is used mainly to manage type 2 diabetes and support heart health in people with diabetes.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar in type 2 diabetes
• Reducing risk of heart-related complications in adults with type 2 diabetes and existing heart disease
• Sometimes used to help reduce hospitalisation for heart failure in certain patients, as advised by doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks a protein in the kidneys called SGLT2 that normally reabsorbs sugar back into the blood
• This causes extra sugar to be passed out through urine, lowering blood sugar levels
• Also has mild effects on blood pressure and fluid balance, which may help the heart

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for type 1 diabetes
• Not used for treating diabetic ketoacidosis
• Not a substitute for insulin in people who need insulin
• Not meant for weight loss purposes, even though some weight loss may occur
• Not a first-line treatment for high blood pressure alone

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of dehydration such as severe thirst, dizziness, or low blood pressure
• Symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, and difficulty breathing, even with normal blood sugar
• Signs of kidney problems such as reduced urination or swelling
• Signs of severe genital or urinary infection such as fever, pain, or foul-smelling discharge
• Sudden swelling, pain, or redness of the genital area (rare but serious infection)
• Signs of low blood sugar such as sweating, shaking, or confusion, especially if combined with other diabetes medicines

How to Use JARDIANCE 25MG TABLET (EMPAGLIFLOZIN 25MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Drink enough water during the day to stay well hydrated
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, unless your doctor tells you to stop

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the strip in its original packaging until ready to use
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have type 1 diabetes
• Have severe kidney disease or are on dialysis
• Have a known allergy to empagliflozin or its ingredients
• Have diabetic ketoacidosis

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have any kidney or liver problems
• Have a history of urinary tract or genital infections
• Are on a low-salt or low-fluid diet, or are elderly and prone to dehydration
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have low blood pressure or are taking diuretics (water pills)
• Are due for any surgery
